Would you swap a 2009 MB White 2.0GHZ with 4gb ram, 2ghz CPU, 160gb hdd, for a new 2009 13" MBP 2.25GHZ 2gb ram, 160gb hdd?

Apple say I can send mine back, they would refund me then I could buy a new mbp. this would cost me an extra £300.

Thanks.

Personally, I would, but I'm not sure if I could really justify it :)

The white macbook is a fine machine and fairly close performance-wise. But the better build-quality and aesthetics of the 13" MBP would be worth it for me.

This is how I am justifying it - bigger upgrade capabilities which will mean I will keep it longer. Better build quality - that will last. Better battery life [I use it mostly off main]. Better screen, and processor. SD Card - I really miss this port.

The HDD size will be the same - but it will get a new 500GB model.
The memory is only 2GB compared to my 4GB but £50 will sort that out.

So in essence I think this will be a worthwhile upgrade as it will pass the test of time

I would If I could get through to the bloody Apple Store Bullring - I have been queuing on the phone for 45mins now!

Need to check stock so I can get it tomorrow, so it will be easier to copy files across from my MB!

Seems silly to me. You'd be paying roughly $500 for what amounts to an insignificant performance upgrade and a more aesthetically pleasing machine. You can always read SD cards with a USB adapter that would cost you a couple of quid at most.

Nope just applying a bit of logic and removing emotion from the assessment.

If you really must have the 13" MacBook Pro, at the very least, sell yours privately and then use the proceeds to upgrade. You'd likely lose out much less that way.

Disclaimer: I just upgraded from my second generation Core Duo 2.0 Ghz Macbook with 3GB RAM 160GB HDD to a base model 13.3" Macbook Pro.

I paid a bunch of money for it, and will offset that cost a little bit by selling my old Macbook to a neighbor for about half of what I paid for this MBP.

Having said that, I must say that I'm very glad I did this because

a) The display is brilliant. It's even better than my 22" external and before it was the other way around.

b) Despite not being able to get my wireless keyboard working (probably due to dodgy batteries which I am charging as I type this) the keyboard on the MBP seems to be improved. I disliked using the built-in keyboard on my old Mac, but this one seems to be okay to yeah okay.

c) New trackpad. I don't usually use the trackpad, but this one is pretty brilliant.

d) it's thinner. And it seems a tad sturdier without the creaks the plastic one had. I didn't have a problem with that really, but this small thing makes a large difference.

Yes, the keys are in different places, I'm looking at the same 1280x800 resolution, it's pretty much the same machine with a few more MHz on the CPU and a GB less of RAM (which I will take care of later) but these little things add up. I can crank the RAM up to 8GB, put in a big-honking HDD internally, and my external stuff still works just fine with FW 800 to boot.

Plus it's a Macbook Pro now, and believe it or not, that seems to make a difference.

EDIT: forgot to add: Do it.
