hi,
i am new to mac and i Bought the new 17" macbook pro with the NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT.

when checking the graphics/displays in my system overview on my mac i found that it shows the 9400M and 9600m GT graphics cards (one in PCI and the 9600M in PCIe) it looks like that the 9600M GT graphics card is not in use and the 9400M is in use instead. How do i use the 9600M GT graphics card as i paid extra for that or is this telling me that my macbook doesn't have the 9600M GT graphics card installed?

Please help this confusion.

Thanks.

System Preferences - Energy Saver

At the top you'll see Graphics - choose Higher Performance - then select Log Out

It'll log you out and change the graphics card being used.
And of course, save anything you have open first.

If you're running off the battery, you can lose a significant amount of time depending on what you're doing.
