7200RPM hard drive upgrade

I'm running the stock 5400RPM 320GB Hitachi hard drive on my MacBook Pro (5K320) and I want to upgrade to a 7.2k drive.

I have a couple of options, the Hitachi 7K320, the Seagate Momentus 7200.4 or the WD Scorpio. The 500GB 7.2K drive from Seagate looks promising, but costs as much as twice as the 320GB models. I believe the 320GB model hits the sweet spot at about $85.

My questions are: is it really worth it? Is the performance improvement noticeable? Which model would you pick?

Not sure. I have a WD 400GB 7200RPM External HDD and a 5400RPM HDD in my computer and I'm not sure what the difference is. Does it read or write files faster? I've experienced a weird problem where when I was watching a movie from the drive the movie freezes for a few seconds and then skips to 5 seconds after when it froze.

The new 7200 RPM drives are generally quiet and have been designed to not use an excess of power as older models did. This is convenient for use in battery powered scenarios. I also believe you'll be happy with the performance of either of these two drives.

Thanks. Indeed, I was trying to decide between Seagate and Hitachi. The Hitachi is $10 cheaper, but I've read good thing about Seagate.
