If Apple decide to love me then I should be having a macbook delivered this Friday that I ordered mid January (will learn me for adding an additional iLife for my iMac to the order) and I was wondering, how long does it take to charge first time?

thanks!

to 100% maybe some 3 hours? just a guess ... it charges quickly up to 80%, then slows with charging to be easy on the battery

My MBP takes about 3 1/2 hours to charge fully from about 10% so 3 hours sounds right for the MacBook.

Actually, the battery retains a significant charge out of the box, so you'll spend less than the full time it takes to fully charge.

I would suggest cycling it one time, which means let it charge to 100%, then take it off the charger and use it till the battery runs out and the computer puts itself to sleep. Then place it on the charger and let it charge overnight.

Hmmm, I just plugged mine in started downloading my software when it came out of the box. Took about an hour for the light to turn green.

Kash has mentioned it, the battery is not completely empty when it ships, usually about half way, since that is supposedly the best for longer storage

first time battery charge procedure?

Hello everyone,

Do I have to allow the factory battery charge to drain fully before I charge it fully for the first time or is it recommended to charge it fully before the system is turned on for the first time?

Just plug it in and start using the MB.

Is this necessary with the new generation lithiums that Apple used in their new 17" MB pro production line? What does the manual say?

At the Mac store I was told charge it until the light turns green (takes about an hour out of the box) then let it charge for a couple more hours. Remove AC power cord and let run on battery for 5 hours. This calibrates the battery to allow longest use.
