I just participated in a WebEx meeting and during the meeting I noticed the green light for my iSight camera was on. The thought of them being able to view my disheveled appearance during this business meeting was unsettling to me. I looked in System Preferences for a way to turn off the camera but found nothing. As soon as I closed the meeting, the green light went off. Does anyone know how to prevent someone from hijacking your iSight camera?

What application were you using at the time? iChat or another third party web meeting app?

Regards.

I'm not sure if there is a way to disable the camera. Anyhow, the only thing that i can think of is that you put a tiny piece of tape over your isight. It's definitely not the best solution, but at least that way you can be 100% sure that no one can see you.

There is a way of disabling the iSight camera so that no program can access it. Any time you try all you'll get is that it's already in use.

Inside the /System/Library/QuickTime/ directory is the QuickTimeUSBVDCDigitizer.component file.

By removing this component file from this directory you can completely disable the iSight camera.

Just moving it to another directory should do it.
Make an "iSight backup" folder somewhere to put the component file in.

You'll have to authenticate as an administrator when you try to move and then it'll only copy it. So once you have a copy of it in your backup directory then you can drag it to trash.

Just be sure you don't delete your backup copy or you may never be able to use your built-in iSight again.
