My late 2007 intel macbook 2.0ghz with 1gb of ram turns on all by itself every single day at 5 'o clock exactly for no apparent reason, i checked the schedule timers in the system preferences, i reset the PRAM and i reset the SMC chip, and nothing, it continues to do the same thing, the box that tells it to wake up in case of power surges isnt checked, so whats going on? its pretty annoying.
Please help this will get on my nerves eventually. thanks

If you click on your battery icon on the menu bar and go to Energy Saver Preferences, on the bottom right there is a schedule button...

If it's not that then I'm not sure what to suggest! But I'm sure someone else will come up with something.

do you have any 3rd party apps that may be scheduling it? Programs may have a schedule to do a backup of some sort or even programs like awaken can wake your machine for alarms.

Take a look at your start up items in the accounts pain as well as the startup folders in ~/Library and /Library for any apps that could be scheduling power management changes

I used to work in a net cafe with 10 old imacs and one of them turned itself on when it felt like it. Never figured that one out.

"Johnny 5 is alive!" ;)

If you can't figure it out, the easiest way to get rid of it would be to back up your files and do a complete restore to knock out the problem. But don't use Time Machine or a cloner, because it'll likely copy the problem with everything else.

BTW, if anyone gets my lame joke, I'd be surprised

Way... way too many specs to list.
No disassemble Johnny Five.

One of my coworkers was born after that movie came out. I'm now officially old

I'd try trashing the /Library/Preferences folder before I did a clean reinstall

As you will learn soon, we don't need to reformat and reinstall our OS like on Windows machines. This is considered a drastic measure and only to be done as a last resort. Although in this case, it might be in order if all else fails.

What does it do when it turns on? Do any applications open automatically?

Have you disabled any widgets on the dashboard that may be scheduled to update? I doubt they'd run during sleep but .. . . .

Try to remember when this started happening... Did you install anything just before ? Change any settings in your user account ?

Another place to look is in your PreferencePanes, there might be something in there.

Did you check your logs ? There might also be an indication of what is launched and at what time.

If it is coming "alive at five" exactly at 5 o'clock to the second, then it has to be a process or program. Have you tried disconnecting it from the internet, LAN or WAN completely? ie. turn off airport and/or disconnect ethernet cable and see if that has anything to do with it. I seem to remember a setting from back in my windows days ...something like "wake on LAN". Maybe try that...but I too am grasping at straws.
