Can I Make My G5 SSE2 Enabled?

Hi, my experience with Mac hardware is severely limited. I have a Power Mac G5 and wish to install Adobe Creative Suite 3 Production Premium on it but some programs (namely Premiere) require support for CPU extension SSE2. I know that the Mac Pro meets this requirement, but is there some way to make my G5 SSE2 enabled? Is it possible to buy and install SSE2 enabled processors?

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

A G3, G4 and G5 are Power PC Processors. SSE and SSE2 are for X86 CPU's only and built into the CPU. CS3 is a universal application and runs natively on both Power PC and Intel Macs. It should be fine.

Thank you for your quick response.

Most of the applications in the CS3 Production Premium bundle will install and run on my PowerPC Processor, but Premiere, Soundbooth and I believe OnLocation require and SSE2 enabled CPU and warn me of this when I try to install. Installing Premiere is a priority for me if possible.

Yeah, they stopped making Premier for PPC a while back probably due to Final Cut.

It may be too excessive a step, but do you know if anyone has ever installed X86 CPUs in PowerMac G5s? Is the architecture (motherboard, etc.) all wrong for such an installation?

I fear the answer I suspected was true. No Premiere CS3 on a Power Mac G5? Are there no other workarounds?

I guess the choice you have is either buy an Intel-based Mac or get yourself Final Cut Express which should be just about the equivalent of Adobe Premiere.

I used to use Premier till I got my first OSX Mac. Bought a copy of just Final Cut Express (Not even Pro) and never used Premier again.

I took a 3D course in '97 and one of the multimedia apps we learned was Premiere and it was not very good.

Ok, so it stank.

When Apple came out with Final Cut, Adobe is rumoured to have been miffed to the point where they said "To heck with the Mac crowd, we're not making a Mac version of Premiere anymore" and sighs of relief could be heard everywhere on the planet... :D

I do hope for people buying it now that it's better than it used to be. :p
