I upgraded my old Macbook pro Mid 2012 few months ago to SSD 500GB. I recently purchased a Mac Mini 2018. I want to take my SSD drive on Macbook pro and use it as an External SSD for the Mac Mini. Do I have to wipe the SSD even though its the SSD same? Already purchase the enclosure for the SSD.

Is it as simple as, install the SSD into the enclosure, plug the USB-C and power it on and boot from the SSD?

Yes...it's as simple as that...IF...you want to use this SSD that came from your 2012 MacBook Pro as a "data drive" (just use it as extra external storage) when plugged into your 2018 Mac-Mini.

If you want to be able to boot from it from your 2018 Mac-Mini...then the OS installed on it needs to be a newer version of the macOS compatible with a 2018 Mac-Mini (if the OS installed on this SSD is older & not compatible with a 2018 Mac-Mini).

If you want to be able to boot from this external SSD from your MacBook Pro...it will work fine...since the OS on the external SSD will be the same OS that was running on the MacBook Pro when it was the internal drive.

What you haven't told us (in order to give the best clear answers);)...is what OS version is currently installed on this soon to be external SSD. And maybe it doesn't matter...if your intention is to completely erase this soon to be external SSD...and a fresh newer version of the macOS is installed to work with the 2018 Mac-Mini.:)

You are the man, Nick! Thank you for your response. I thought this would be the case, just needed confirmation.

I am currently running 10.5 Catalina on my MacBook pro...

Good deal. If Catalina is installed on the SSD that's being converted into an external drive...then it should work fine both as a "data drive" (when booting one of the computer's from the internal drive)...or as a boot drive (booting from the external SSD in the enclosure).:)
