I’m trying to see if I should go with a pretty maxed out iMac or a iMac pro. I typically have safari, mail, dreamweaver (normally bootstrap files), illustrator and sometimes photoshop open and running. With my current setup I get so frustrated at how slow dreamweaver (2019 cc) is with larger bootstrap or larger css files. Even when I’m in code mode the code scrolls slow and so on.

I’ve decided to configure a new Mac to combat the issue. I’ve gone to our local Apple store as well as talked to my business rep and neither of them help.... I need some real world advice.

My current iMac setup is:

27” late 2013
3.2 ghz i5
32 gb ddr3
GeForce got 755m 1gb
1 tb ssd
2 additional thunderbolt monitors.

Option 1:
Customize your 27‑inch iMac with Retina 5K display.
3.6GHz 8-core 9th-generation Intel Core i9 processor, Turbo Boost up to 5.0GHz
64GB 2666MHz DDR4 memory
Radeon Pro Vega 48 with 8GB of HBM2 memory
2TB SSD storage

Option 2:
Customize your iMac Pro.
3.0GHz 10-core Intel Xeon W processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.5GHz
64GB 2666MHz DDR4 ECC memory
Radeon Pro Vega 56 with 8GB of HBM2 memory
2TB SSD storage

Option 3:
Customize your iMac Pro.
3.2GHz 8-core Intel Xeon W processor, Turbo Boost up to 4.2GHz
64GB 2666MHz DDR4 ECC memory
Radeon Pro Vega 56 with 8GB of HBM2 memory
2TB SSD storage

TIA!

I do a lot of similar work as you do and have a lot of programs open and running including but not limited to video editors and music software. If you have set in stone your options, I would go with option 3. However, that's just my opinion, others may feel different.

I have the base model iMac Pro and have no issues with lag or freezing no matter what I am doing.

I guess my first question would be...are you ok with the price of an iMac Pro or customized iMac Pro?

And just to complicate things a bit...Apple just announced a new Mac Pro desktop model (supposed to be available this Fall). Base model price for the new Mac Pro is supposed to be $5999. You could check out the specs of the new Mac Pro to see how it compares to an iMac Pro to see if the extra money is worth it.
