Is it safe or advisable to leave a lightning plugged into iMac then when you need to charge your iPhone or iPad just plug the device in the other end? Not trying to be lazy just thinking about getting to the back less often. Have been thinking about a hub too.

I do that with my mini. I just coil it up out of the way when not needed. But, I've always done that.

Thanks Bob, that's what I wanted to be able to do. Didn't realize it would charge the iPad until I plugged it in to setup.

Back when the iPod originally came out, that was the only way to charge them. The iPhone changed that, that was when Apple started to include the wall plug with their iPhones, then the iPod touch.

I have that setup right now Kenny. Have a lightning cable plugged into my MacBook Air's USB port that I use for charging my iPhone (no iPhone connected at the moment).

Nick, Now thatI keep my iMac on always this will let me eliminate using the little power adapter charger's and just plug in here. I find another reason to love this again. :)

@Kenny:

I keep three cables attached to my iMac (same model as yours) all the time regardless of whether or not a device is attached. It saves wear and tear on the cables and more importantly, the connectors on your iMac. ;)

That setup does make things more convenient.:)

Just in case you weren't aware of this product...here's what my wife & I use as our main charging area for our smartphones, tablets, smart watches, etc. It's a Satechi 7-port charging station...has both 1 amp & 2 amp charging ports...and as you can see in the one photo...looks like with the proper cable...can even charge a laptop.

But when I'm not near it...and I need a charge...I charge my phone & tablet via my computer as discussed::)

There are of course many other similar multi-port charging stations similat to this.

Great point Charlie. Some of those cables can be pretty "delicate"...and don't seem to like a lot of long term connecting & disconnecting.

That unplugging all the time was my concern too.

Nick, that's a pretty sweet setup. Haven't seen anything like that but have seen other type of port to keep from going behind.

So that is basically a stand alone unit?

Yes...just a charging stand to better organize the charging of multiple devices at the same time. And if you purchase short charging cables (which I have done & can be seen in the photo)...this setup can minimize the spaghetti-like nest of cable's from all those devices.:)
