I have not seen anything at all regarding using an eGPU with the new Mac Mini 2018 model. The only stats I have seen regarding using the new eGPUs are for the MacBook Pro models that can utilize them. I would think that the new Mini equipped with the i7 and plenty of memory should be more than adequate to do video editing and play games. Of course loading up a new Mini with an i7, lots of memory, and a large SSD is going to run into lots of $$$. :)

Sounds like a good plan. Make sure you follow the iFixit: The Free Repair Manual directions when adding memory yourself. Looks like it can be done fairly easily as long as you're okay with taking things apart. Be careful when purchasing an eGPU since not all of them are the same. And there is a chance that an eGPU is not compatible with the Mac Mini. Like I said above, I have not seen anything regarding using one with the new Mini.

I was reading a review of the new 2018 Mac-Mini...and Apple did a great job with the 6-core CPU in the mid & top-end models (great CPU benchmark scores)...but Apple didn't include a really GPU to match the great CPU performance (maybe a cost savings thing...or didn't want a lower cost Mac-Mini to cannibilize iMac sales).

Anyways...using an eGPU was suggested to improve the 2018 Mac-Mini's graphics abilities...but these can get costly ($500). This idea was sort of not necessarilly suggested/recommended...since if you take the purchase price of the 2018 Mac-Mini ($1100+) plus the cost of the eGPU ($500-ish)...might be better off getting something else (such as an iMac with a discrete GPU).

Food for thought.:)

Hi I just got a Mac Mini 2018 i5. I got a few questions.
The temps can get up to 95-98 degrees Celcius running Unity Game Engine(While in play mode) or playing a game. I heard anything above 80 is bad.
I can get the temps down if I speed up my fan. The thing is the fan never seems to go above 2010 RPM.
I can increase it up to 4400RPM but what's a safe amount?
Am I able to underplot my CPU?
Will getting A external GPU keeps my CPU temps down since now the work to render graphics is moved off the integrated GPU on the CPU?
