If I put a new file onto my desktop (any file, copied off the internet, duplicate file... literally anything) my iMac 21.5 inch seems to create a duplicate .rtf file in the same name, it continues to duplicate until I can catch up with it and delete them all, then the original file is fine.
Thks in advance for your help.

What Mac? What version of OS X? Does this only happen on the Desktop or other folders? Have you booted into Safe Mode and seen this happen? What apps do you normally have running?

My Mac is iMac 21.5 inch, Late 2009 - mac OS High Sierra Version 10.13.6. This only happen on the Desktop. I'll try boot into Safe Mode to see what happen. Normally I run Chrome, gmail, word, excel, youtube & and some downloads from gmail.

Yes, please report back what you find in safe mode, that should be useful. Beyond the stated apps, do you have any extra helper apps running? You can check your top menu bar to see what's there.

This is NOT normal behavior within OS X, so it must be some helper function/app doing the duplication.

Do you have another user account on your Mac? If not, you can create one, just to test your macOS behavior?

Thks for your reply.
In Google Chrome I see: 1. Poppit; 2. Youtube; 3. Web Store; 4. Entanglement Web App; & 5. Gmail.

Voilà!..I have solved it. Thanks a lot my friends. I opened "Applications and opened "Automator" >>Scrolled to "Extract PDF" I opened it and changed Output from "Rich Text" to "Plain Text". And voilà!...

I'm glad you found the problem, but even though Automator's name implies it can do things automatically, in my experience it normally must be implemented manually, and as far as I know, it sure doesn't normally keep duplicating files on its own. That must've been quite a good Automator that was set up, even if it did more than you wanted it to.

You are right. I honestly do not know how this problem happened. I probably changed the setting unintentionally, but I am not sure.
