Late 2013 27" iMac Memory upgrade
I have a Late 2013 27 iMac with a 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5 and 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. Im looking to replace the 8 GB with either 16 or 32 GB.

I went to Crucial.com and used their system scanner and it told me the following was compatible with my Mac:
Crucial 16GB Kit (2x8GB) DDR3L 1600 SODIMM Memory for Mac.

They are Out of Stock at Crucial so I did some research on Amazon by sorting the reviews by 1 star. There were different issues for different people; I understand that. The one that stuck out the most is as follows:

    Posted - November 26, 2014

Kernel errors (crashes / forced restarts) on 27-inch, late-2013 iMac. Returned to Amazon. Kernel errors on Apple support and other websites cite defective external RAM as the likely culprit.
    Attempted numerous reinstalls. Problems persist.
No errors once this RAM is uninstalled.
Sorry folks: This is a no-go for the 27-inch, late-2013 iMac. It'll register and trick you into thinking it's working, but if you notice your computer crash, it's likely this. It's inconvenient, but it is what it is.

Heres the Amazon link to that post by: Meet Kevin:

Im wondering if anyone has had similar issues or am I just suffering from research overload. If there's anything I'm overlooking or should be aware of, please don't hesitate let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Mike

You might want to check with OWC (Apple Mac Upgrades - RAM, SSD Flash, External Drives and More) to see if they have the right memory in stock and to verify the suggestion from Crucial.

Thanks for replying. Here's what OWC came up with. As far as I can tell they're the same.

That's good. Now you have a second source. Were they in stock at OWC? The nice thing about OWC is that they stand behind their products.

It says: Availability: Same Day so I'm assuming they are in stock and at a better price, thanks.

    iMac, i7 4GHz, 32GB memory, 1TB Blade, OS X.14.1 Mojave,
Another pair of 4GB will take you to 16GB which should be ample unless you are heavily into photography etc. And at $54 a lot cheaper than 2 x 16GB at over $200.00.
Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

Sorry for the late reply. You make a very good point. I'd be able to save some money for other projects. It's definitely worth considering. Thank you !!
