Hi
First time poster.
I am putting my 2014 Mac Mini into local shop to replace the incredibly slow spinning HDD with an SSD. They do offer to back up and transfer my data but I want to go with a clean install as all my files are on icloud and all apps are from the App Store. My question is do I sign out of icloud, IMessage, ITunes etc before I put it in for this HDD swap or is this not necessary. I suppose I am wondering if it becomes a different machine with the disk change. Please excuse my ignorance and look forward to any help you can offer.

Welcome to our forums.

Before handing over your Mini to have an SSD installed, you should make a backup. If the shop offers to do it for you, it would be a good idea to let them. You can always do a clean install later on if something comes up. Macs are not like Windows machines. :) I know you said that you had files stored on iCloud, but iCloud only stores such things like photos, music, and documents. No apps or system files are stored there. Another thing to think about, are all your apps still available from the Mac App Store?

As far as signing out of iCloud, it's not necessary but you can do it that way if you prefer.

hi there

as chscag has said

its not really an issue to remove your iTunes account as despite the hard drive being replaced by an SSD
the serial number remains the same on the logic board.

I am with him also on doing a backup and restore because any settings on app's or any thing like that won't be kept as iCloud don't keep a record of system files and settings.

but if there is ever any issue after you could always reinstall as its simple to do.

For mine suggest cloning the hard drive to an external via CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper. This way is the only 100% way to ensure you have them as communications, in a computer shop particularly, get misunderstood or downright lost.
