2010-2012 Mac Pro Mojave Compatibility

2010-2012 Mac Pro's can be made "Mojave compatible" with the installation of a "metal compatible video card". Here's a pretty good article from OWC (macsales.com) explaining things...and a video card they recommend:

Luckily this is a relatively easy one...since Apple officially supports it.

Always nice to keep older gear working. I've certainly been down a few rabbit holes doing that.

I've seen a patch that would allow my 2008 MB Pro to o beyond El Capitan. Haven't gotten around to trying it yet but I might try it soon just to see if ti works.

I put that project off for some time because I was having so many issues trying to get each version of the Mojave beta installed. I didn't want to be without some type of backyp machine if it took me longer than anticipated to straighten things out. Now that thhe public relase of Mojave and subsequent beta are behaving for me (except for Bootcamp setup) I'll give it a try soon.

Bonus for waiting a bit. It looks like there is now a patch for Mojave on some unsupported macs. When I first looked at this i think it stopped at High Sierra. I have a suspicion it will be a bit slow on that machine though.

I haven't investigated this yet...but throw up some links. Wouldn't mind if my 2011 17" MacBook Pro could run Mojave.

I have a suspicion it will be a bit slow on that machine though.

That was my first thought. That you may not have been super motivated to try the patch...if your 2008 MacBook Pro was more of a dinosaur/paperweight/doorstop! Lol

The initial search that I did yielded these results. I haven't made a serious study of this yet. just a cursory glance at a few pages several months ago. 0The links all seem to be pointing primarilly to this tool The list of supported machines is pretty long although there are a few caveats with certain models.

One thing I have not investigated yet is whether the process can be reversed/undone. I haven't seen remports of it bricking systems but I also haven't checked into whether you are locked into Mojave. In my casecould I use this tool to Sierra or H.S. I believe the original version of the tool worked with one or both OS versions.

After quickly looking over some things...saw this statement: Lol

Sounds like there may be a bit of risk involved. This was from a late July 2018 article...maybe as time goes on safer methods will be discovered.
