Hi,

Has anybody experienced anything similar? The line appeared not too long ago - doesn’t go all the way like in other cases I have seen. Red, quite thin just above halfway up - most visible on dark backgrounds, less so on others.

Mid 2010 A1312 (EMC 2390)
2.8 GHz Core i5 (I5-760)
16gb ram
Currently installed High Sierra.

The graphics card is Radeon HD 5750 - has been fine up until this appeared. No line on external display.

Any advice or direction for research is appreciated. Thanks!

Firstly, let me extend a very warm welcome to our Forums.

Secondly, I'm no expert in this area, but I should have thought that if there is no such problem on an external display, that would tend to rule out a Graphics Card problem and perhaps point to a linear pixel issue with your Mac's screen.

But hold on till wiser counsel get a chance to offer better advice.

I 2nd Ians advice. sounds right to me. It could be a dirty pin on the connector from the display to the board but that would mean opening up the iMac and with those models it's not easy.

IFixit has a guide as well as OWC has videos.

Thanks for the help. I think I will order an ldvs cable and risk opening it up, or try unpluggin and replugging in the connections. Hopefully that's all it is and not the whole LCD - I don't think it's worth replace the whole screen. Hopefully it doesn't worsen.

That just might do it. I have had a few iMacs where just unplugging and plugging fixed any lines. Keep us posted.
