My HP OJ 4650 will print a test page from printer buttons but will not print from Word, Pages or Mail and it has worked fine in the past.
HP said my MAC must have a virus and wanted to remotely check my computer. I wasn't comfortable with that so I refused but am quite
frustrated with trying to resolve this issue. Any suggestions?

Thank you.

First, your iMac does not have a virus. (It has been the experience of some of us that HP tech support is not very helpful.)

What we need to know is what has changed from the time your HP Office Jet was printing okay and now? Have you upgraded your version of macOS for example? Have you tried rebooting your iMac? Have you tried removing the HP and then reinstalling it? Do you have another printer that you can test with? Does the HP print from other applications?

Sorry about all the questions but answering them will help us to perhaps resolve the problem.

Also it would help if you stated the year and model of your 21.5" iMac and which version of macOS it's running.

I am red faced from embarrassment! I have spent hours no days on this issue and didn't think my ink levels were a problem because the information on HP Printer in System Preferences said ink supply was fine.
Upon further checking, the ink was actually non existent. This is one of the dumbest errors ever. And yes I'm blonde!

LOL. Glad you resolved it. And don't fret... it happens to all of us, blonde or not. :)

So not only is the HP tech support not helpful, their software is also a let down. :)
