Hi,

I have a Imac 27" mid 2011 2,7 GHz , Modell Imac 12,2.

Purchased 2 x 8 MB ram Crucial product number: CT2C8G3S1339MCEU

I had 2 X 2 MB ram installed from before from the iMac was new, and installed the new 8 MB ram in the two bottom slots.

Total 20 MB ram. It worked for 3 days, and then I got 3 beeps. The sound that means there is a problem with the ram.

I took out the 2 x 2mb ram, and tried with just the 2 x 8 mb ram it didn't work. Same 3 beeps.

I tried every possibility of installing the ram, but still got the 3 beeps.

Finally I had to reinstall the original 2 x 2 mb ram so it worked properly.

What could be the problem?

Would appreciate any help.

Sounds like one or both of your new ram sticks has failed.

Try each stick on it's own in each slot to nail down precisely the point of failure. That should tell you if it's the slot or which stick is at fault.

Then it's, likely, a product replacement from Crucial

Are you seating the new modules firmly? Press on them until the click in.

I would try what Harry stated above first before returning the modules to Crucial. Seating modules in that model iMac can be a chore. I know because I had a difficult time seating modules in my 2011 iMac when I owned it. The modules are difficult to push down into their slots. You have to use considerable force to get them seated properly otherwise they will creep out and cause beeping just as you experienced. Try using a soft cloth with your thumbs to seat the modules. If the modules are seated correctly and you still get the beeping then as member "mrplow" indicated, one or more may be defective. However, I would find that to be rare if a Crucial module was defective.
