Is there a preference control or ? so one can designate where on the screen a flash drive will show up when connected?
I ask because one flash drive will appear right next to my HD icon and another will appear on an adjacent screen in the middle / right section.......

If it matters this is on a 2012 mac mini running 10.10.5

Thank you for any answers!

I've never seen a preference setting for this. I believe what the OS does is try to place a 2nd drives icon as close to the primary internal drive icon as possible. Usually under the primary internal drives icon.

If there are a bunch of other items/icons on the desktop...then the icon for additional drives get's placed where there's room. Clean off the desktop...and that second drives icon should be placed very close to the primary drives icon.

And quite often, the drive icon just has to be clicked and dragged to a new preferred position where hopefully it will stay, at least for a while and should do unless it gets crowded out.

Nick / Patrick - thank you.
Not a problem, more of a convenience request. My screens are not plastered with folders and such so it is interesting where the second drive icon is placed. Will clean everything up and see if it does indeed default to a spot close to the main HD. Thanks again

As long as you do not have snap to grid or any of the sort by turned on it "should" mount to wherever you put it.
So put it where you want it and try it.
