Hacked?

A couple of days ago I was on Facebook and clicked on some "quiz" and up popped a "warning" that my computer had a virus and to immediately call a 888 # for help. I assumed it was bogus so just shut off the computer and restarted it later in the day. It did seem to get rid of the warning but I have not been able to get back onto Facebook ever since. Any ideas?

It's a scam (ransomeware). Not sure why you can't get back into Facebook.

Hi Tom - ransomeware can be a pain to rid from your computer - quoted below is a list that I post occasionally (and use myself if hit w/ this annoying malware - in fact, just cleared a similar message from my wife's iMac - believe she may have been on Facebook and had no problems). You may not need to go through all of the steps but take a look - good luck. Dave

Ransomware Removal

- Force quit Safari.
- Turn off your Wi-Fi or disconnect the ethernet cable.
- Reopen Safari and close the offending tab(s).
- Clear ‘History & Data’ in the Safari menu.
- Reconnect to internet, i.e. Wi-Fi or ethernet cable.
- Add ‘extensions’: AdBlock & Ghostery.
- Use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac.
- Visit http://www.adwaremedic.com/index.php.
