Open System Preferences>Keyboard>Text and add one with the little + in the lower left hand corner.

Thank you for your reply. I have a new Macbook air and a two year old iMac, but neither has the "little + in the lower left hand corner." Any other ideas please?

Mac OS X Has had this feature for a long time, I seriously doubt that you do not have it.

Oh and you can't create a key combo like command+option+control+shift+e to make OS X insert an email, you need additional software (below). Your best option is to use the substitution feature to replace something like "em2" to "[email protected]"

If you absolutely need to have a keyboard shortcut to insert an email you need one of these 2 to do it.
