This may sound strange but somehow a small spider (1 centimeter long) got inside the screen of my iMac. At first I thought it was outside but when I tried to wipe it off, I couldn't touch it. Tapping the screen on top of it made the spider ball up. It isn't dead because it moves around.

Anyway, it this something I can fix? I can't see any (non violent) way to remove the screen.

Wow, I find that hard to believe since the glass panel is glued or sealed to the LCD on the newer iMacs, both 27" and 21" models. Either the seal is separated or there is a defect in the way it was put together. Unless the spider is behind the panel itself... and in that case it would have had to get in there through either the top or bottom vents. If it's behind the panel, it will eventually work its way out or get zapped inside the iMac. In either case, you might want to make an appointment with Apple and have them look at it.

Your photo never uploaded to the forum. In any event, if the spider doesn't exit by itself you might want to take your machine to Apple. If that spider dies while stuck behind the glass, you'll never get it out without removing the glass - which you can't do by yourself without special tools.

If you right click on the image icon and select one of the Open Image options you should see it.

But I'll ask on the Apple support forum.

Sounds like it is still under warranty so take it to an Apple reseller or Genius Bar.

I saw the photo. It does look the spider is behind the glass not between it. What you might try:

Buy a can of compressed air at any store that sells it. Then, blow short blasts of air through the bottom vents directly under where the spider is settled down. I believe that will either dislodge it or cause it to exit. You can't really blow the air from the top vents because they are slanted slightly off perpendicular to the bottom of the chassis.

The air blasts will not harm your machine or the screen. Just be careful not to blow too much at once. Short quick blasts are best.

I have a small spider in my late 2012 iMac 27" also =(

It was like I was cursed for reading this post. I laughed my a-- off when I did. Then a few days later I was trying to delete this black pixel on a pages document. Lo-and-behold it was spider in-between the screen and glass panel :\
I thought they were sealed together but there it is. I tried to vacuum it out from the vents but It looks like it won't budge. I'm doomed to have this for the next 4 year +
