We had a power outage here today and the G5 with attached Apple monitor does not seem to be behaving properly. The monitor never comes on, but the light on the monitor blinks three times (two quick blinks followed by a single blink). That's all it does. The computer sounds like it is booting properly, but we can't see the image on the monitor.

Suggestions?

Try resetting the PRAM/NVRAM. See the following Apple KB article. LINK

Unfortunately that did not work.

EDIT: It turns out it was the white power supply box that powers the monitor. Somehow it was able to give it enough power to blink, but not do much else. I sure hope Apple sells these boxes without needing to buy an entirely new monitor.

You didn't give your location but there are several Mac parts distributors in the US that are on line which stock parts for Apple hardware.

Try here.

And here.

And there is always ebay. Good luck.

Regards.

Thanks, but neither of those sites have it. eBay has it for $95. That's a lot of $$$ for a simple power brick in a fancy white case. From what I've read, this is a fairly common problem. BTW I am from Denver, I'll update my profile to reflect that.

Might be time just to get a Dell monitor and not look back.

A friend just bought a used iMac 24" and a week after had a massive power surge and right after that an poll transformer that went BANG! He had no Surge protection at all on the iMac. Only damage was the hard drive's controller board was fried. I put in a new drive and all was fine. He was very lucky!

So it's the power supply that powers your monitor? Which Apple display do you have? I will look for a power supply for you.

It is the Cinema Display 20". It uses a 65W box. And it was hooked up to a surge protector, though my faith in such devices becomes more skeptical at times like these.

This is the culprit:

Hmmm.... the image tag seems to be turned off, so I changed it to a non-clickable link. I tried to use the URL tag as well but it put a Mac-forums url before mine. The BBcode here does not operate like it does in most vBulletin forums for some strange reason.
