Will a 1.25 G4 Single core and DP work with the same mobo?

Like the title says, without doing anything, is it possible to swap out a single processor 1.25ghz chip and throw in a dual 1.25ghz chip from the same style of mac(ie. MDD) without changing anything?

Reason I ask is, i sold a dual 1.25Ghz MDD G4 processor, and the guy says that it doesnt work in his single (1.25ghz) processor MDD.

Should be quite easy if he purchased the complete unit as a whole with heatsink, unless it was a later non OS 9 boot model FW 800 model.

So what i gather from this article is that in order to use a dual processor card in a single processor mac, you need to do a physical hardware mod (as long as everything is compatible including the motherboard and ram)?
