Why do my zip files automatically unzip when I drag them to an external hard drive?

No doubt this is a preference issue. But I'll just ask anyway because I am curious. Why do the zip files I drag to my external hard drive unzip automatically?

I'm not aware of any setting that automatically unzips files to an external drive. How are you doing the copy, just dragging the file?

That is correct. I am just dragging the zip files to an external hard drive.

Do you have any ZIP specific programs installed that might be doing this for you? This isn't default macOS behavior.
