VERY SORRY - THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN POSTED IN THE MAC OS BOARD
I was tidying up and came across this small USB device.
I have no idea what it is or when I got it!
I inserted it into a socket on the Anker hub but it does not mount.
Could it be a USB memory stick?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I may be way off but this looks to me like a memory card. Try going to Finder Preferences>General and make sure External Disks is checked then insert the device and see if it mounts.

That looks like a USB dongle for a wireless device like a mouse.

On second look, you may be right. We shall see.

Or it could be the security dongle for some software you installed at one time. With the dongle inserted, the software runs, with it not there, it doesn't.

Could it be something that came with 'SkullCandy' ear-buds?
I don't remember having any software that came with a dongle.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Is there any indentification type info, tiny or faint, anywhere on the device???

It doesn't seem to be a normal female USB type A connection that's also missing the typical metal surround if that makes any difference for identification or a reason for some specialized use.

Don't throw it away, because if you do you'll find what it was for the day after you have done so.. It's the law of the world...

Those dongles were RF wireless dongles, so not BT, and usually worked with a specific device or class of devices.

Look in System Information. In your Utilities folder. Then go to USB and it should have some information for you.

Not tried Bob's suggestion yet but the writing on the shiny part is very small:
MODEL #FB150
FCC ID: XRAFB150
IC:8542A-FB150
CAN 4?CES-3(B)/
NMB-3(B)
211-121000 (OR 9 LAST DIGIT) FC CE

As I say the writing is very small and I can't find the magnifying glass.
The above effort was achieved with a photo.

Cannot do any more tonight but will try Bob's suggestion in the morning.
Many thanks to all.

MODEL #FB150

A google search says, with a description from amazon:
MODEL #FB150
Fitbit FB150 Wireless Sync Dongle with USB Charging Cable Cord for Fitbit Flex Wireless Activity Tracker

It's amazing what Google and most Internet lookup searches can find.

Sure looks the same... ;-)

OK ... well, well, well.
Mac-forums comes up trumps again - thanks to all and especially to Patrick.
Yes, indeed, where is the other part? No wonder I've been getting out of breath just walking up the steps!

Don't forget that you actually found and supplied the model number, and I just used a Google search using that information.

Just as a reminder that a Google search can be your useful, helpful friend.

Besides, I was rather curious myself to know what it was for, especially with its rather unusual USB build.

OK - the writing was tiny but a blown-up photo doubled as a magnifying glass.
Glad that the mystery is solved.

Don't forget to let us know if and when you find the fitbit.

But it might need charging...
