[QUOTE="mufngruf, post: 1209210, member: 151219"] Well Nick, Firstly, I didn't mention the KP before because it didn't happen before... only most recently, after changing the drive and after the system installations. And then I mentioned it. Secondly, it's unlikely to be bad ram - it's the same ram it was running on for almost a year before I decided to mess with the beast. Thirdly, today I put the original drive into an external case and it's definitely buggered. Disk Utility cannot repartition because "Posix reports: the operation couldn't be completed. Cannot allocate memory." Would a bad/leaking cap really have done this much damage to two drives so suddenly? I'll have to read up on it. If the emac is indeed toast, c'est la vie.. it was, after all, merely a pawn in the "gotta own 'em all" Mac passion that began with the Plus... and it's been a good little drone for quite a while. so, thanks Nick et al... time to move on, I guess. I keep running into Macs with "issues".. lost my iBook to the dreaded video chip meltdown, now the emac to a bad capacity.. Next it's a G5 imac 1.8... got anything to warn me about with that one?
