The dropped connections seem to be correlated with spikes in CPU activity (loading new web-pages, running CPU intensive processes from the terminal, etc). If you are experiencing a weaker wifi signal with Lion than with Snow Leopard (while you're running off the battery), it could be because Lion's got a lot more busy background processes running and chewing up CPU cycles, which increases power consumption, which in turn may decrease the power available to the wifi hardware.
Weak wifi due to weak battery? My Mac (w/ Snow Leopard) has also been giving me a lot of trouble with wifi. Constantly dropping connections, difficulty reconnecting, etc. I realized that when I plug the power cable in, it behaves much better. Even when the battery is about 70% charged, the wifi sucks when running off battery power. My own Mac battery is almost due for replacement, and trying to stay connected to the wifi when running off battery is almost guaranteed to fail. When I plug in the power cable, it suddenly becomes much more reliable.
