Stylish?

As the writing on my old Bluetooth keyboard had become hard to read for my old eyes, I splashed out on a new one.

This one is rechargeable, although unlike the Magic Mouse you can actually use it whilst it is charging, which is handy.

Helpfully, in order to avoid too much of a jolt between the old worn-out keyboard and the new one, Apple have pre-worn the writing on this one. The letters are thin and pale grey which makes them barely legible.

A few more versions and they will be provided with no markings at all - much more basic and honest, very stylish - or as we older types would say, harder to read.

Also the keys are slippery, which is not good. However, I like the wedge-shape. Better now the tube for the batteries has gone. Needless to say, Apple didn't think of including folding supports to angle the keyboard towards the user, like on Windows keyboards.

Looks very impressive - cool and stylish - unless you actually plan to use it of course

When I first saw an Apple white on black keyboard, probably 25 years ago, I though it was a glorious example of design above practicality. Of course, the stuff is designed by youngsters who think they will never reach 40, god forbid any older. Key The Who...

lol guys. We had our turn now let 'em have their go. It is called progress. In all the time have used white keyboards, yet to have letter fail or (touches wood) have a letter come off or fail.

They do not fail. It is just more difficult to distinguish one letter from another when they are marked in very spindly grey writing on a white background.

A keyboard needs to have each key clearly marked!

Maybe they are working towards the control panel on the spaceship in Hitchhikers's Guide to the Galaxy - black writing on a black background?

I thought we would all be touch typists by now anyway, personally I find my white on black keyboard very legible at 64, thanks to the backlight but I admit I don't use it in very bright environments. They could make the bumps on the base keys a little more noticeable though. But then I notice many of us are using dictation now.

The white on black on my MacBook Pro is fine. I am referring to the spindly pale grey on white on the Bluetooth keyboard for my iMac.

I may have to try giving the old keyboard a thorough clean and then use that again

Cool and stylish are fine - in their place - but some things also need to work properly

A) I touch type. So, illegible letters don't really even cross my mind since those are never the keys I have to drop my eyes down and find.

B) The "flatness" of the current keyboard is much better for me to use compared to other keyboards that are slanted more because of the legs. By and large, it seems that the keyboards that are designed to prop up at the rear do so mostly because of a gigantic space bar that you have to be able to get your hands/fingers over. The size of the keys works very well for me on this keyboard and I MUCH prefer it over other keyboards that I've literally worn the keys off of.

Problem solved

I scrubbed all the dirt away from the old keyboard and replaced the batteries. Now I have a smart, stylish work of art and a functioning and good to use keyboard - it is just that they are not both the same item.

Of course, the less charitable view could be that I wasted my money on a poorly designed new keyboard when I could have just cleaned the old one
