Hi there, as I have said in previous posts, if you have bought a recent G5 imac such as myself simply drop it on Ebay and trade up to the Intel versions if that is what you want to do-obviously. They are still holding their money and one way to justify any loss you make is in terms of the added bonus of having the updated programs such as Ilife06 installed. I love my G5 Imac and if it werent for my Finance agreement being flexible allowing me to upgrade at a very minor loss then I would be sticking with it and would be happy. The way i would look at it is in the UK the intel based machines are more expensive than the G5 units all be it very slightly- so the price point of the older isight g5's is mantained- which is good for residule sales. But do not be worried about going for the newer setups. People on here should not be so discouraging of the new Intel setups. Only the real power applications will require Rossetta ( the PowerPc emulator ) to work and from industry rumblings I have heard that Office for example shows no sign of slow down and from an American friend at the expo he said that when he was demo'd an new Intel Imac running Indesign and Illustrator that it was very marginally quicker than his current G5 setup. Now factor into this that there will be Intel friendly universal versions released around March and the intel machines will (fingers crossed here) give a significant speed increase- this is theoretical obviously. What i want to do is encourage people to go for the new machines if they want to, the point has been made that the G5 is a ruddy good chip and has taken care of Apple for some time now, but there is now a further choice. This is the one thing we all should be thinking- wow we have an even bigger option now as Apple consumers and that is the best thing surely?????
