As my 2017 iMac has slowed down significantly I need to declutter ***. I've downloaded Onyx and Passwords has flashed up. Given that this is free software and it has full access to everything including all my passwords how secure is it?

Top shelf! It has to get access to the innermost of your OS to do what is necessary. Trust it, let it do its thing; you will not regret it, as I can attest over years of using it on successive OS.

+1 for what Hugh said. It needs full access. It is safe and reliable, but I would suggest that you use the "Maintenance" Tab and keep all the default settings.

Thanks. I've also looked at Randy Singer's suggestions and removed some surplus files.

Hi Alwyn - have to agree w/ the others about Onyx - not sure what you are referring to by 'Passwords' (iCloud Keychain or another password manager?) Doubt that Onyx does anything w/ password files since encryption would like be a barrier - if you're still concerned you can contact Joël Barrière in the Onyx app - I've had a number of email exchanges w/ him over the years (and have also donated several times to his site - a consideration for all using this useful and 'free' app). Dave :)

BTW - some of our newer forum members may not be aware of Randy Singer's many contributions here but no link was left - for those interested, check HERE
