If you use the ROKU Express the website says you have to use wifi as well as the HDMI connection. Why cant the Express just use the HDMI for all its work??

Umm, how do you think it's getting the content to stream to your TV? HDMi is the output audio/video avenue. The device also has a power connector and USB connector.

HDMI is a display protocol, Wifi is a networking protocol. No internet traffic can be transmitted across HDMI.

another thing...I went thru the Very unclear process of making a hotspot in Big Sur. I think I created something cause I used the command line for connections and saw many lines including one that said sharing... I don't have internet sharing on but I would also like to delete the connection that I made anyway..anyone know how???

Can you tell us what those commands were? If you open up the Terminal app, simply push the up arrow to cycle through your history.

As a tip for the future, try to avoid using commands on the command line unless they are clearly explained. Dangerous things can happen.

It's easier just to go to Sys Prefs->Sharing and enable Internet Sharing, way easier than whatever Terminal commands you were using.
