Restarting a mac pro..life span shortened??

ok guys i switch back in forth in bootcamp, ALOT i mean like 4 times a day which is a total of 8 reboots. Is this in anyway damaging my mac pros hard were in the long run. Does restarting stop power flow for a split second,or does it just reset the motherboard.

I'd really like to know considering, i would really would like my 2006 mac pro to last for another 3 years atleast. I'm a bit paranoid considering i just got it, any advice?

Wow, you want a 2006 machine to last until 2013? Well, good luck of course, if any machine's going to make it it's that one, but you'll get no guarantees here, particularly as you have you've picked it up used.

I don't think rebooting does any more harm than anything else, but you might consider running a virtualiser (ie Parallels or VMWare, etc) if it bothers you.

Rebooting properly will certainly not harm the mac at all.

Can easily be done, My 2001 G4 tower is still going strong, but not in daily use any more, as of a year ago. I do rest my machine at night (shutdown) but I dont know if that makes a difference.

I even have an SE30 in the room that still works, from 1989

I have no reason to believe that my 2006 Mac Pro that I purchased used won't last until 2013 ("knock on wood")...and beyond!

I should have clarified that I meant "still be relevant" rather than "could still be in use."

Most mac models are quite tough and could easily still work after seven years -- the question is would you still work regularly on them?

I'm sure some here will point out that they do, but think about it from a Windows perspective and you'll see how odd it sounds for someone to say they plan to be using the same computer for seven years!

I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that it's beginning to look like this MBP may last me five years. That's amazing enough in my book after budgeting a couple thousand a year minimum for my gaming rigs. I really didn't expect that I would still be using this as my primary computer two years down the road when I bought it.
