The password I created doe not work anymore on my external HD.

I think it's because I've changed it’s name. Since I can't see my HD on my desktop or finder, I can't rename it. I

I've tried to change the name in disk utility but didn't find a way. Could some help me.

Thanks in advance

How did you change its name the first time? And what is this password you created for?

I've changed the name from the desktop and I encrypted my HD with a password when I bought it

I would first try rebooting to see if it shows up. If it does not, recheck Disk Utility. What does that show? The drive has to be listed in Disk Utility at the minimum, even if it can't mount the contents.

I'm assuming it's the Toshiba Drive with the problem? In which case it shows up in Disk Utility (DU).

What happens if you click on "Mount"? You may have to do this several times, but that may force it to mount.

I believe you're stuck. The password you used to originally encrypt the drive is likely associated with the drive name. You can't change the name back because the encryption password does not work since it's looking for the original drive name. Sort of like a "catch 22".

Unless you absolutely need the data on the drive, it's probably a throw away. But before you throw it away, make sure you physically destroy the drive first.

Can the drive be renamed to its original from a PC?

Not if it's password protected. Windows will ask for the password when you try to rename the drive.
