I had bought a QNAP TS231 NAS box and a WD Red 3TB drive to use at home for storage.
The NAS is always disconnecting and I often have to power cycle it. It is relatively useless at this point and I am fed up.

Before giving up entirely on a NAS, is there a NAS model or brand that folks could recommend?
I am looking for something that is pretty much turn-key to setup and needs little maintenance.

I don't want to have to be an IT specialist after I get home from work each day.

Thx

The important information is the networking, where the "Network" attached storage device is being used?

How many computers will need to access it?
What OS systems will be accessing the stored data?

Used in the home, for just the iMAC and maybe an ipad.

Don't care about streaming media, music, video, etc.
Just using it as central storage.

I have a Synology NAS that works well with all of my devices (multiple Macs and streaming devices). Most of the new NAS' have all the functionality that you don't care about, but you can easily disable/ignore that additional functionality if you only want it to a sink for your data.

Hi,

I have a Synology DS918+ and recommend it highly.

Serves all home functions for Music/Movies, I have a Time Machine share backing up my Mac, along with Plex Media Server.

If you're into Web development it also provides plenty of backend apps, oh and it's extremely quiet.
