I have a PowerMac G4 with 1.25ghz processor

I have a dead IMac G5 with a 1.8ghz Processor

Can I solder the IMac G5 processor onto my G4 logic board as a replacement?

I'm sure the answer is no, but if you want to convince yourself:

Identify the G4 processor
Identify the G5 processor
Search on the web for the form factor and pinouts for each processor

If the form factor and pinouts are not EXACTLY the same, it won't work.

That's only the first gate. All processors require housekeeping and peripheral chips like, memory, memory controllers, bus controllers, timers, etc. Both the G4 and G5 peripheral chips and the surrounding system architecture must be identical.

Besides the compatibility concerns, desoldering and resoldering these devices is not a trivial task.

Good luck!

Simply no never.

Look for a 1.25/1.42DP on eBay and such, or put your dollars towards a later model machine. The processor maybe the problem in the iMac also as the first 1.6/1.8GHz GH5 processors were not that strong.
