I am orders of magnitude below you folks w/resp to computer smarts. I don't know if I have an SSD or not. I am using a 'vintage' iMac (early 2008), 2.66 GHz Intel processor, 2GB 800MHz DDR2 SDRAM memory, serial no. QP8490PMZE3, running OS X 10.11.2

Hello again - as to the type of drive in your computer - I believe after checking EveryMac that your machine is shown below w/ the type of HH underlined (more information is given by scrolling down @ the website on its specs) - NOW, I'm assuming that your original HD was not replaced w/ a SSD or that the optical drive was not exchanged out for a SSD, if both are possible w/ this vintage machine.

Plus, you can use 'About This Mac' (Apple in left upper corner) -> System Report, then highlight 'Storage' the type of drive(s) will be described - hope this helps (2nd image below of my MBPro, early 2013). I assume you have a spinning HD which could be defragmented, if desired. Dave :)

So as suggested I started iDefrag and in Preferences > Updates it states there is a newer version. I have version 5.0.0 and Check for Updates states there is a later version 5.1.1 but I cannot find a way to initiate the update. Any suggestions on this?
SORRY' ignore the above, after 3 tries quitting and restarting I got the "There is an update available would you like to download etc"
may have been my wonky internet service to blame.:Blushing::Blushing:

LOL, one of the pitfalls for living in paradise Rod? Anyway, glad to hear you got the update. I think you'll like the cleaner interface and faster scan it does.
