Wow, read where Apple products to be released on Wednesday will have price increases. Were you expecting anything less? Every year new features = price increases. What would be news is if Apple introduced new models, with some new features, and kept prices at the existing level.

That's not quite how things work. Apple (and every company out there) continues to innovate and create new products with new features that people want. Their crack marketing team also decides how to bundle those features so that people will pay them for it.

Traditionally, the pricing of Apple products remain the same for the new model, while the older model (if it continues to be sold) gets a price reduction.

An iMac bought 10 years ago costed you $2k. A new iMac today for the price of $2k is significantly better and more featured.

So Apple is doing EXACTLY what you suggested.

Also, just in case you missed it, inflation has driven up the cost of everything--including the components to make those new products, labor to assemble them, package them, and ship them to you.

Much to consider as pointed out by Ashwin & Jake - my first computer in 1980 (one year before the IBM PC w/ DOS) was an Apple II+ (about $2000), but once I added an internal Hayes modem and a second floppy drive (both about $500 each), my total was $3000! Today w/ inflation that would be $10,000+ as shown below - a bargain? :) Dave

Value of $3,000 from 1980 to 2022

$3,000 in 1980 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $10,786.75 today, an increase of $7,786.75 over 42 years. The dollar had an average inflation rate of 3.09% per year between 1980 and today, producing a cumulative price increase of 259.56%. (Source)

Not really true. Many times Apple releases new computers...and they try to keep the same price point as the previous model (especially when it comes to the entry level model in each computer lineup).

Also like already mentioned...due to the economy at this time (including after-effects of COVID)...many many things have increased in price big time (why would electronic devices be immune to this).

Turns out you read wrong. In the future, it's probably best to avoid ranting based on rumors.
