After some trouble with my existing browser, Firefox, I decided to go back to Safari after a long time away. Everything is ok and I’m very pleased with the way it is behaving apart from one, small, niggling issue.

When I open Safari I have the home page set to a specific web site and, just above that web page, at the bottom of the toolbar, is a description of the web page. Whatever web page I open there is always a description of it just above. I accept that this should be the case when tabs are opened but surely not for a single page?

I am using an M1 iMac and Safari v17.3.1. My old iMac has Safari v15.6.1 and doesn’t display a description of the web page above it unless opened in tabs.

I have tried all of the various settings and can’t change that, niggling, display. Is this a ‘feature’ of the latest version of Safari that I’m stuck with?

Thanks for getting back to me.

Unfortunately that isn't the solution. It was unticked when I originally set it up. I have tried ticking and unticking but no good.

I must have tried all of the various settings several times without any luck and wonder if there is some way of resetting Safari and starting again.

I don't know of a way to force Safari to ignore settings. What I suggested worked fine for me, so it must be something in your setup. All I can suggest is a cold reboot.

I have just moved to Safari from Firefox, and my niggle is the opening pages. On Firefox I could say when I reopened it what I wanted as my standard tabs. I cannot find a setting for this so have all windows from last session, but it does not work!!

I have the 'Homepage:' set as BBC.co.uk and the setting for 'New Windows open with:' as Homepage. Every time I open Safari I have the BBC website displayed.

So can I have multiple tabs as my home page?

I didn’t actually spot that you wanted to achieve that and I’m not sure how you could do that unless there is an extension available.

Others might have some suggestions.

In Safari you can Pin any tab that you want to always have open.I used to have up to 20 tabs open in Safari. Of course they all can't be viewed at the same time, but when I clicked on them, they would reload what I was previously browsing. But it s easy enoughtpo reload the webpage.
