Srsly, what genre? I can recommend August Burns Red, Lupe Fiasco, A Day To Remember, Authority Zero, The Low Life, Coheed and Cambria, Mumford abd Suns, and any others, but no two of those bands are in the same genre.

Grizzly Bear They're awesome live.

Joanna Newsom

The National

Clinic

Interpol (one of my personal favs for the genre)

Beach House

Curtis Mayfield (not many great examples on you tube, but he's WELL worth checking out if you're into old school soul/RnB/Funk

The freegin' legend: Tom Waits

Followed by another legend. This mans voice can make me weep :Jeff Buckley Do check out more than just that cover.

These guys are just fantastic: Devotchka

Normally I don't like Country, (and I don't consider Johnny Cash to be Country, either) but this guy is an freegin awesome guitarist and helluva fun guy to listen to as a vocalist as well: Junior Brown

Band of skulls

The Felice Brothers

More later. Time to mangia.

I agree with all the Last.fm replies. That's probably the best site for music you can find on the web. I also use Grooveshark constantly because you can find almost any song that ever existed. And even some that might not yet. It's also got a "radio" function that I actually prefer over Pandora.

I like the idea of Pandora but the actual site just makes me angry haha. As for music, Eminem is an amazing lyricist and you can't beat his honesty. I never liked rap until I found out that only 95% of it was about chicks and guns. The other 5% is really good. Doomtree (specifically P.O.S. and Dessa), B.O.B., Grieves, and Dead Celebrity Status are all good.

As for rock: Digital Summer, BulletProof Messenger, Under the Flood, Hypnogaja, Neverset, and Serj Tankian's solo albums. You can check out my Last.fm too.

Actually 100% of rap is rapping about yourself. But I have to agree Eminem is really good. I also like Will Smith.

If you think about it, musicians can make great actors, but not the other way around.

And Will Smith is a rapper who only entered TV (FP of belair) to pay a tax debt from his first rap single. But I agree with you. Most actors who try to sing are terrible.
