There's no 3.3 to it - that's Windows 32 speak. OS X in the '06 MBP and the '07 MB will only use 3 GB. The limitation has to do with the Intel chip in these machines. I own and am still using one of each of these 2 machines. They both have 2 x2 GB kits in them. Using a 2 x2 GB kit will maintain the dual channel capability of the machine. The system will recognize 4 GB are installed, but only 3 GB are available to be used. As to the memory your friend has, if it's 200 pin - you're getting them for free - I'd probably try it in a 6 yr old machine. It will either work or it won't. Not going to damage anything unless you damage something inserting them. If it does work, it's only going to run at 667 speed.
