We're having a similar problem in our household, and it has happened on multiple occasions - but only on one machine! We currently own 3 iMacs and 2 MacBook Pros. One iMac and MBP are dedicated to my wife's schoolwork. After upgrading to OS X Lion, all of her documents disappeared. The folders were still there, but every document vanished. Since she had everything backed up with Time Machine, we assumed some sort of user error, or perhaps a weird iCloud problem. She restored her files and things were okay. I don't recall exactly when it happened, but it was at least 6-7 weeks ago. She had been doing classwork Thursday evening - when she went to work on it again today (Saturday), all of her documents have disappeared again! All of her folders are still there, but the documents have vanished. The Hard Drive is showing ~80 Gb used of her 1Tb total. The computer has not been touched since Thursday night. None of our other machines have this problem. The only difference is that she used "Secure Empty Trash" on the iMac, since it is used to store sensitive files. She DID empty the trash Thursday evening before she was done for the night. I'm not sure if others who are having this problem (such as manon.jkl) use the Secure Trash option?
