hello all;
i have a gigabit ethernet g4 with no os on it i have tryed every version of linux i can find and cant get them to install completely.

ubuntu 8 asks for cd rom drivers, both versions.

ubuntu 9.4 server has password issue.

9.10 locks up.

yellow dog wouldnt boot at all.

debian got close but there was a no kernal error.

and apparently there is no easy fix.

there is no preinstalled os so i there were no drivers. i was able to

load cdrom drivers for debian, but still having the no kernal issue.

any help would be appreciated.

I had no problem installing Ubuntu on a G4, but I had replaced the optical drive with a Poineer 110D DVD drive

They are pretty cheap and a good idea as an upgrade on those models

Sounds like you got issues with the hard drive or the way your making CD from downloads. Install a DVD optical drive and Buy a version of the Linux flavor you want on DVD. They have to be PPC Mac versions.

I tried to reply last night but for some reason it was sent for moderation

OpenSUSE 11 or 11.1 have PPC versions

Cheers :)
