[QUOTE="Manny Pantz, post: 347373, member: 16352"] Hi folks I wasn't sure whether to post this here or in the Hardware section. I apologize if I'm in the wrong place! I'm using a 6 year old G4 PowerPC - 466 Mhz - running 10.3.9 with 512 RAM. I have a 30 gig HD with approx 10 gig free. I burn a lot of CDs -some are music CDs that I make in iTunes 7.1 (59) while others are CDs of SHN or FLAC files (music compressed into a lossless file). Sadly, in the last week I've made 13 "coasters" and I'm going crazy trying to nail down the problem. In iTunes I get a "The speed setting is too high" error message. The fastest speed I use is 8X but I get this message when I drop the speed down to 6X or even 4X. At the moment I'm using TDK discs 52X compatible so 8X shouldn't be a problem, right? When I try to burn SHN or FLAC files I get a "Could not verify this disc" error message. I copied portions of the log (see below) for a better understanding of the problem. I'm unclear as to why the Mac thinks I've requested a burn speed of 92X or 104X - I've never set the burn speed higher than 8X. The problem is sporadic as indicated in the log... sometimes the discs work and sometimes they don't. Lately however it happens almost every time. I didn't know what else to do so I tried repairing permissions but that hasn't helped and I'm about a paycheck away from purchasing TechTools. Why does my Mac think I'm requesting higher burn speeds than I actually am and is there something I can do to remedy this? Thanks in advance, Manny Mac OS X Version 10.3.9 (Build 7W98) 2007-03-11 13:50:08 -0700 iTunes: Burn started, Sun Mar 11 13:53:15 2007 iTunes: Burning to CD-R media with SAO strategy in SONY CD-RW CRX140E 1.2a via ATAPI. iTunes: Requested CD burn speed was 8x, actual burn speed is 8x. iTunes: Burn underrun protection is not supported. iTunes: Write (10), block: 163466, count: 27 -> 3/0C/08 Medium Error, Write error, recovery failed iTunes: Burn failed, Sun Mar 11 13:58:17 2007 iTunes: Burn sense: 3/0C/08 Medium Error, Write error, recovery failed iTunes: Burn error: 0x80020060 The device drained its buffer without burn underrun protection. iTunes: Burn started, Sun Mar 11 14:00:26 2007 iTunes: Burning to CD-R media with SAO strategy in SONY CD-RW CRX140E 1.2a via ATAPI. iTunes: Requested CD burn speed was 92x, actual burn speed is 8x. iTunes: Burn underrun protection is not supported. iTunes: Burn finished, Sun Mar 11 14:09:13 2007 iTunes: Burn started, Sun Mar 11 14:14:53 2007 iTunes: Burning to CD-R media with SAO strategy in SONY CD-RW CRX140E 1.2a via ATAPI. iTunes: Requested CD burn speed was 104x, actual burn speed is 8x. iTunes: Burn underrun protection is not supported. iTunes: Write (10), block: 163700, count: 27 -> 3/0C/08 Medium Error, Write error, recovery failed iTunes: Burn failed, Sun Mar 11 14:19:53 2007 iTunes: Burn sense: 3/0C/08 Medium Error, Write error, recovery failed iTunes: Burn error: 0x80020060 The device drained its buffer without burn underrun protection. iTunes: Burn started, Sun Mar 11 14:21:41 2007 iTunes: Burning to CD-R media with SAO strategy in SONY CD-RW CRX140E 1.2a via ATAPI. iTunes: Requested CD burn speed was 8x, actual burn speed is 8x. iTunes: Burn underrun protection is not supported. iTunes: Burn finished, Sun Mar 11 14:30:04 2007 OSXAccess v1.01 Load complete!
