Ipod Touch 1rstgen help

Hi im having some trouble with my 1rst gen ipod. I want to put apps on it and i found out i need the 2.1 update. But i cant find out how to do this or find the update itself. Mayby i didnt look hard enough but it would be awesome if someone could give me a link or explain things for me. Thanks

Hook it up to iTunes. It should upgrade it to the maximum OS supported (which is 3.1.3).
