iphone X almost full of OTHER.

Why is my iphone full of 'OTHER' ? Nothing else on there, down from 64 gigs to 18 gigs.
How do I get rid of it all and stop it from happening.What is other?
I hope the pictures show up.

In addition, that display can take a while to sort out the types of file to show them in more detail. I have found that if you just let it sit, in a few minutes the "Other" will break up into smaller categories. Some will always be "Other" but not all of that.
