Problem: My Wife has an Android phone and is concerned about the storage of photos and particularly videos that she shoots of our dogs.

She wants to be able to continue shooting videos without the storage limits of the phone and she wants to be able to call up these shoots from, say, three years ago so that they would be available on the phone. She currently has a Macbook Air recently purchased.

She is considering getting an iPhone.....

What would her options be should she decide to go the iPhone route?

Thanks

If your wife gets an iPhone and she already has a recent model MB Air, it should be easy to satisfy her needs.

She takes pics and videos with the iPhone, imports all of these to the Air and stores them in the Photos app.

For backup of these pics/videos in the Photos app, she has several options.

iCloud (automatically)

Time Machine (whenever she sets it to BU)

Cloned backup (whenever she chooses)

Periodical copying of the Photos library to an EHD

As regards her iPhone, after she’s imported all her pics/videos to the Air, she can keep a selection of them on the iPhone for showing others; deleting those of less interest in the knowledge that ALL her pics/videos are not only in the Photos app on the Air, but backed up as stated above.

If/when your wife gets an iPhone, I can tell you how to set up the iPhone so that it automatically copies pics to the Photos app on the Air - this cannot be done for videos as the nature & size of these files precludes this.

I can also guide you re the settings needed for automatic BU to iCloud from the Mac's Photos app.

Android phones, unlike iPhone, take SD memory cards which would be an alternative to buying a Mac.

Sue, the lady in question has already purchased a new MacBook Air.

But what you said is quite right. One can manage without a Mac.
