[QUOTE="Cou, post: 1399749, member: 250574"] Although this thread is a little dated, it comes up as one of the first results in Google so I thought I should probably make an account and post here. I was having this problem, or at least a very similar one, today. I would plug in my external drive, and would experience a kernel panic after approximately thirty seconds. I have included a printout of my kernel-panic report at the bottom of my post. It turns out that the problem is caused by spotlight trying to index the drive. Why this would be the case I'm not sure, perhaps it's a faulty drive, perhaps all the invisible files from different operating systems are confusing. My temporary, workaround solution was to disable spotlight indexing for the drive. Open up terminal and type in: sudo mdutil -i off /Volumes/USBDRIVENAME Where USBDRIVENAME is the name of your drive. You will be prompted for your password. Note that you will need to do this while the drive is plugged in, but before your computer crashes. If your computer is crashing too fast for this, disable spotlight entirely, then plug in your drive, disable the spotlight for the drive, then re-enable spotlight as a whole. It's not exactly an ideal solution (spotlight won't search your external drive any more), but it will at least let you access your files. Here's my report, just in case anyone wants to check for similarity.
