Welcome to Safari - the application that leaks memory quicker than a bucket with a head sized hole in it. Start disabling the extensions. I don't know how memory is managed with Safari extensions but that's an easy place to start. If you want to continue enjoying such leakage (honestly, Apple makes some great software but they must have had the interns develop the memory management features for Safari), stick with it. If you want a modern browser that doesn't decimate your memory store, consider switching to FF or Chrome. Both have higher initial memory usage but do what any application should - cap that usage as the application gets used and more importantly, release it when it's done. I've seen Safari consume memory like it was going out of style only to hold onto it when it was done doing whatever it was struggling through. Thus, feel free to stay committed to Safari without question but then prepare to enjoy the memory costs. ;)
