What OS are you running? I am currently using Lion and PureFTPd 1.8. In Lion there are no native FTP services so perhaps I cannot replicate your scenario. In previous versions of OS X the sharing preference allowed for FTP, SMB as well as AFP. Turn off file sharing, open the terminal and try to telnet to port 21 to see if you get an answer. telnet 127.0.0.1 21 Trying 127.0.0.1... Connected to localhost. Escape character is '^]'. 220---------- Welcome to Pure-FTPd [TLS] ---------- 220-Local time is now 14:36. Server port: 21. 220-This is a private system - No anonymous login 220-IPv6 connections are also welcome on this server. 220 You will be disconnected after 15 minutes of inactivity.
